How is mini tummy tuck surgery performed?
Mini tummy tuck surgery can be performed on out patient basis under
local anesthesia or in patient with one day of stay under general anesthesia.
The surgery takes about 1-2 hours.
The surgeon makes a horizontal or slightly curved incision of approximately
6 inches (15 cm), just above the pubic hair. He separates the skin of
the lower section of the abdomen, between the pubis and the navel, from
the underlying tissues. He cuts the excess skin and sutures, without
having to stretch the skin first. Since there is no tension, the wound
tends to heal without any complications. Finally, before a bandage is
applied, he places a temporary drainage tube that will help eliminate
the excess fluids.
What is the post operative care and how long is the
recovery period?
You would be allowed to go home the same day after the surgery or will
have to stay overnight at the hospital. You might have some amount of
pain and discomfort immediately following the operation. You may also
experience numbness, bruising and overall tiredness for the next few
days.
For the first 2 days, the surgeon may advise you to bend your legs at the hips to reduce strain on the abdominal wall muscles. Within the first week the drainage tubes put in during surgery to prevent fluids from accumulating will be removed. A support garment will be worn for two weeks. You should be able to return to work or school within a week. Exercises that work the abdominal muscles should be avoided for three months. Low impact exercise can be resumed within 2-3 weeks. High impact exercise may be resumed within 6-8 weeks.
What is the outcome of the surgery?
The change in the body contour is remarkable, especially in those women
who have a roll of fat and skin to hold below the navel.
