Every
woman bemoans the extra bulge she carries under her
arms, which is why plastic surgery to lift the arm is
becoming a popular cosmetic procedure. Arm lift or Arm
Liposuction or brachioplasty is a surgical procedure
used to remove the excess skin and fat that make your
arms look saggy.
What
can I expect from the arm lift surgery?
Arm
lift surgery removes the excess skin and fat deposits
that appear as a consequence of age or massive weight
loss on the upper section of the arms. If your arms
have a sagging appearance on the triceps and it makes
you feel uncomfortable when you wear sleeveless clothes,
then an arm lift may be the right thing for you.

What
should I not expect from the arm lift surgery?
Arm
lift surgery is not used for removing small fat deposits
from your arms if the skin has a good elasticity. If
this is your case, and diets and physical exercise do
not produce the desired results, liposuction is the
right thing for you.

Am
I a good candidate for the Arm lift surgery?
Inner
arm lift surgery is very effective at removing excessive
skin; especially in the case of someone who has last
a vast amount of weight and is carrying unsightly folds
of skin where fat used to be. If this is your case,
you are a good candidate for the arm lift surgery. But,
if you have arms with excessive fat and would like a
more slender or sculpted appearance you may be better
suited to liposuction.

How
is the arm lift surgery done?
The
technique used to perform arm lift surgery is fairly
simple, with the patient under general anesthesia; an
incision will be made along the underside of the upper
arm from after the elbow to the area near the underarm.
Surgeons will take care to make the incisions in the
least conspicuous place. Once the unwanted tissue, fat
and skin is exposed it is removed carefully to restore
the natural shape and contour of the arm. If the arm
is very fatty, the extra fat can then be suctioned out
using a small tube and the liposuction method. Once
fat and tissue are removed, the incision is closed and
bandaged.

How
long is the recovery time after the arm lift surgery?
You
will be able to return home immediately following the
surgery with heavily bandaged arms. You would experience
some pain, bruising and swelling in the area; which
can be easily controlled with prescribed medication.
Surgical bandages will be removed after four-five days,
and sutures will also be removed at the same time.
You
can return to your work between three days to one week
and two to three weeks until normal activity can be
resumed. You should not lift heavy objects or take part
in any vigorous activity requiring large amounts of
arm movement for up to six weeks. Your plastic surgeon
will instruct you to follow a recovery regimen including
elevating the upper body and placing ice packs on the
incision area. The full effect can be seen about two
moths following the surgery, and will yield a far more
attractive arm shape without the saggy skin.

What
is the outcome of the arm lift surgery?
The
results of arm lift surgery are permanent and very satisfactory.
Your arms will look much firmer for a long time. In
spite of the resulting scars, when most patients evaluate
the outcome, they feel that the benefits obtained far
outweigh the negative aspect.

Can I combine an arm lift with other treatments?
Inner
arm lift surgery is recommended for people who have
lost a lot of weight and have excessive skin hanging
loose from their arms. You may also be interested in
an inner thigh lift, also great for people who have
recently lost a lot of weight. Browse our obesity surgery
procedures if you have not yet lost the weight. If you
wish to have some excess fat removed, rather than excess
skin you may like to explore liposuction instead.
If
you would like to improve your skin’s texture and appearance
then you may like to explore non-surgical anti-ageing
procedures such as microdermabrasion and dermal fillers.
