If

How
would the Eyelid Surgery be performed?
Eyelid
Surgery is performed under local anesthesia with
intravenous sedation if being performed as a separate
procedure, but General anesthesia is used if it is a
part of a longer procedure like a face lift. Depending
on the number of eyelids getting done, Eyelid Surgery
may take any where from 2 - 4 hours.
An
incision is made below the eyelashes in lower lid and
along the creases of upper eyelid by the surgeon. These
incisions may extend to the outer corner of the eyes.
The skin of the eyelid from the underlying fat and muscle
is dissected and separated, remove excessive fat and
trim away excessive sagging skin and tighten the eye
muscle.
The
incision is then closed with very fine sutures so that
it results in minimal scarring after Eyelid Surgery.
A trans-conjunctival approach for Eyelid Surgery
or Blepharoplasty may be used so that no external
incision needs to be made.

How
long is the recovery period and when can I resume my
activities after the eye lid surgery?
You
will spend the first few hours after Eyelid Surgery
in the recovery room under observation to watch for
any post-operative complications. a cold, wet pack over
the eyes is placed to minimize bleeding and swelling.
This process must continue at home after the discharge.
You will be allowed to go home the same or the next
day following your Eyelid Surgery.
You
will be able to return back to your daily activities
in about 2 weeks following the Surgery. You should avoid
physically strenuous activities like playing sports,
bending and lifting heavy objects for about 2 weeks
following the Eyelid Surgery.
- Keep
your head elevated and apply cold compresses to minimize
swelling after Eyelid Surgery.
- The
physician will also prescribe some eye drops to lubricate
your eyes and prevent burning and itching.
Do not wear contact lenses for the next couple of days
after your Eyelid Surgery as it may be uncomfortable.

What can I expect after the surgery?
Swelling
and bruising around the eyes, and sometimes in the eye
itself is normal, and will resolve by itself in about
2 weeks. The eyes may water. In the early post-operative
period, some asymmetry may be apparent due to unequal
swelling.
