We
at Indicure know how important it is to a person's self-esteem
that they feel happy with their looks. Your face is
your tool for communicating with the rest of the world,
and you should be completely at ease and free from self-consciousness
in your every day life.
Many
people feel unhappy with the size and/or shape of their
nose. What is it about your nose that you would like
to change? Is it the shape or the size? Would you like
to reduce airway obstruction and improve breathing?
People
have Rhinoplasty surgery for a variety of reasons. Knowing
what you like and dislike about your nose and having
realistic expectations of what Rhinoplasty can do is
essential to a positive experience.
Rhinoplasty,
or nose surgery, is a set of popular procedures used
to either correct nose related health problems or to
reshape the nose for cosmetic reasons. It can correct
birth defects or help to relieve some breathing problems.
It can reduce or increase the size of the nose, change
the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span
of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose
and your upper lip. It is many times performed in conjunction
with a Face Lift procedure also to combat aging changes.
What
can I expect from the Rhinoplasty surgery?
- It
corrects unaesthetic characteristics in noses that
are too long or too big, bulbous, with a hump or with
a 'hanging' tip.
- It
narrows the nostrils, if they are too wide.
- It
corrects deformities such as those acquired as a result
of accidents.
- It
changes the shape of the tip or the bridge.
- It
changes the angle between the nose and the upper lip.
- It
can give the nose a more masculine or feminine look,
according to the standards of proportion and harmony
prescribed for each sex
- It
helps correct certain breathing problems.

What should I not expect from the Rhinoplasty
surgery?
Even though it will make your face look more beautiful
and harmonious, and it will probably also improve your
self-esteem, it will not be enough to make you look
perfect. One should be realistic in his or her expectations
from the cosmetic surgery.

How is Rhinoplasty done?
The
procedure of Rhinoplasty takes about 1 - 2 hours. The
procedure can be done either under local or general
anesthesia depending on the choice of patient and the
preference of surgeon. If done under general anesthesia,
a stay of one night is required at the hospital or the
patient can go home the same day if done under local
anesthesia.
Incisions
for Rhinoplasty are made depending on the reshaping
job that needs to be performed. The skin of the nose
is separated from it's underlying bone and cartilage
which are cut and trimmed to obtain the desired results.
The skin is then re-draped over the bone and cartilage.
Incision(s) is sutured and nose packs are placed to
minimize the chances of bleeding.
Broadly
there are four different types of Rhinoplasty procedure
based on the procedure and the requirement of the patient:
Reduction
Rhinoplasty:
Bone or cartilage are removed in an effort to change
the shape of the nose.
Augmentation
Rhinoplasty:
Enhances the nose by adding cartilage, bone, or implant
material when nasal deficiency (loss of structure) is
encountered.
Closed
Rhinoplasty:
Improves the contour of the nose by making the incisions
inside the nose and removing, shaving or repositioning
the cartilage and bone.
Open
Rhinoplasty:
Improves the contour of the nose by making the incisions
inside the nose along the nostrils and across the columella(vertical
strip), and removing, shaving or repositioning the cartilage
and bone

How
long is the recovery period after Rhinoplasty and when
can I resume my work?
The
patient is kept under observation to keep a watch for
bleeding or any other post-operative complications that
might become manifest in the next couple of hours after
Rhinoplasty.
The patient would generally have a nasal pack that is
left in for 48 hours, and a plaster on the nose for
5 to 7 days. Any stitches inside the nose dissolve by
themselves. Any stitches left outside the nose are removed
in three to five days. The nasal splint remains in place
for seven days to hold the nasal bones in place, as
well as help reduce swelling. Swelling and bruising
lasts for two to three weeks. One can return to work
or school by ten days as well as resume light exercise.
Rigorous exercise can be resumed within 6-8 weeks.

What
is the outcome of the Rhinoplasty or nose surgery?
The
final result of surgery may not be apparent until 3
to 6 months after surgery. Each day, your nose will
begin to look better and your attitude will improv e.
Most people end up wishing they had had the surgery
earlier! The pain and discomfort associated with the
surgery is soon forgotten as the results become more
and more evident.

Can I combine Nose Surgery with other procedures?
We offer specific packages to combine with nose corrective
surgery, as we find many patients like to compliment
their new, better proportioned nose with other corrective
surgery, such as cheek implants, chin implants to give
further definition to the face, or a facelift to achieve
a fresher-looking face with tauter skin.
If
you would like to improve your skin’s texture and appearance
then you may like to explore non-surgical anti-ageing
procedures such as Botox, chemical peels microdermabrasion
and dermal fillers.
